My brother who is blind broke his glasses?!

Question: My brother who is blind broke his glasses?
My 11 year old brother has recently gone blind from a fireworks accident. One eye was hit by at least one firework directly and the other one somehow damaged the nerves in his other eye. The eye that was hit directly, has no color or pupil and it is very blood shot. The other eye is like half shut and just looks bad and bruised and bad. so he's been wearing the dark glasses because he is completly blind. he sees almost nothing but complete black. very llittle light)
he has almost never taken them off except for bed.
today, he was skating for the first time in about a month since he became blind. he fell over a bump, face first and his glasses broke. theyre broken enough so he cant wear them. he doesnt mind showing people what his eyes look like but he does not want to be stared at or anything. what should we do? just daek sunglasses maybe? even though he will look wierd wearing them inside? whats the quickest way to get new dark blind glasses? he is set up with the division for the blind and visually impaired who gave him the last pair. they see him once a week and just saw him earlier today. so we can call but wont get them for like a week.

Here is a tip from Western Therapy, massage the eyes every single hour for 5 minutes. How put 2 fingers beneath the eye and rub it in a circular motion make sure you stretch it as much as possible. This will result in having blood circulation to increase making the eyes have improved vision and also nutrition and protein to the eyes. This dramatic effect may help your brother to see again. Then when finished during the 5 minutes brush the eye brows with some strength with the knuckle of the thumb several times.

You should make him do this everyday for the rest of his life to improve his vision back to the way it was before.

Hi. My first thought for your lil'bro would be to get him a cool pair of "mirror fronted" sun glasses. They look kinda rad, and I'm sure he'd like that... They'll also shield his eyes from everyone as well. You can get these most anyplace, especially some drug store chains... Perhaps go with women's sized (but still masculine) frame - since he's still a young boy. Good Luck!

It may help. http://yourselect.info/24824/blind-glass Gooooood luck (:

Agreed buy him dark sunglasses until you can get his replaced. Just a cheep pair that don't look weird on him.

The loss of sight at that age must be horrendous for him, I'd just get him whatever kind of glasses might cheer him up.

As for therapy, as recommended by John N., I think and hope he meant enough below the eye to NOT put pressure on the eyeball itself. Even then, I would recommend consulting a doctor before doing that with the eye that was directly damaged, at least until it is structurally healed so that it isn't bloodshot. I think there could be a risk of causing further damage. It's kind of like trying to massage a broken ankle. Better not do it until the bone is set. After that, massage may help to reduce stiffness and promote further healing.

I'm a firm believer in vision therapy for simple cases of Myopia, Presbyopia, etc. I have some reservations about the effectiveness of vt in cases of serious physiological damage, though. There may be hope of regaining sight in the eye that was not directly damaged, but realistically, it doesn't seem likely to me that it would be effective for the directly damaged eye. Anyway, if your interested in some additional ideas that I consider, from experience, to be effective with typical visual acuity issues, and may or may not be helpful in your brothers case, please see my answer to an earlier question on that subject here:
