Can I prescribe glasses by myself without a parent?!

Question: Can I prescribe glasses by myself without a parent?
I recently lost my glasses, and would like to prescribe new ones with my own money. Since I don't want to bother neither of my parents, I want to do it by myself. Is there a legal age for prescribing my own glasses? I am 16 years old.

In other words, you're afraid your parents will flip out when they discover you lost your glasses.

If you have a copy of your prescription, you could order some glasses on-line (but you would need a credit card). If you don't have one, maybe a friend could use their card and you re-imburse them.

As for going to going to a place to get an eye test/glasses, just go there, the worst that can happen is they say is "you need to have your parents" its not like they are going to call the cops or anything. If they ask, maybe just say your parents dropped you off and have gone shopping or some other believable story. I think they will be concerned about whether they get paid or not more than anything else.

Also, you might try checking the lost and found at school, and any other places you frequent (girlfriend's houses, restaraunts, bars, etc).

Only an ophthalmologist or optometrist can write a prescription. You can prescribe your own glasses at any age without proper training. Even then, you wouldn't be able to do the tests yourself.

If you mean simply 'buy' your own glasses, then yes. You can go get your eyes checked, get a new prescription, and pick out your own glasses at 16.

Call the place you got the first pair from, they should have a record of that order. Tell them you want to order another pair just like them and ask how much will it cost. They should be able to duplicate the glasses you had, or perhaps find you a less expensive frame to save you money.

If you tell your parents, I'm sure they will appreciate your willingness to pay for a replacement and take responsibilty for your actions. They may even help you pay for another pair.

You didn't say how old they were. If they were fairly new, some places will even offer a discount to you for a second pair in a certain time frame.

Flying Dragon is right, you can order glasses online.

Try that site, they are one of the cheaper and more reputable sites on the net. You can either borrow a friends credit card or borrow a friend's Paypal account. They accept both. And needless to say, they sell prescription glasses and don't require any parent consent. Good luck!
