I would say sitting too close. When I was a kid, our tv didn't have a remote control, so I'd sit right beside the tv (I'm talking inches away) so I could easily change the channel. I sat there so much that my butt made a worn spot on the carpet. My dad said he did the same thing when he was a kid. We both have terrible eyesight (mine is -12.00 and his is about -13.00), so while I really think my vision is due to heredity, I can't help but wonder if sitting that close to the tv screwed up both of our eyes.

I think what happens is people mix up the cause and effect. Kids sit close to the TV because their eyes are going bad, their eyes don't go bad because they sit close to the TV.

As for wearing glasses, this does NOT make your vision worse, what happens is, some people, as they grow, their eyes do not grow quite prefectly and they become near or farsighted and/or develop astigmatism. Their vision usually doesn't change much after growth is complete wether they wear their glasses or not.

Also, if you are specifically asking for ways to make your vision worse because you want to wear glasses, like maybe because all your friends got them or as a sort of fashion acessory? If so, there is no need to try to ruin your vision, you can get fake glasses on-line or in some stores. (Fake glasses have NO lens power, NOT the same as reading glasses!)

Mostly age. When children need glasses, as they grow so do the changes in vision until around age 20.

Once most people reach age 40 or so, reading glasses or specific computer glasses become necessary since the eye can no longer accommodate for those ranges any longer.

Incorporating a good quality anti-reflective treatment to your glasses can help reduce eystrain as well on the computer.

None of those things you mentioned really contibute to the need for glasses.

Glossy computer and TV screens which have reflections are the worst for your eyes, but manufacturer's keep on making them.

If that's eliminated, being too close to either will cause troubles, your eyes need a constant working of seeing farther and seeing up close to remain in shape.

I don't think so, in my case I have been reading in the dark and starring into the computer for 10+ years and those activities do not make your vision worse. They may cause eyestrain and headaches, but that is about it. There is no real way to do what you want to do anyways.

Neither of these things affects your vision. Neither does using computer screens, wearing / not wearing your glasses. Eating certain food and doing eye exercises won't help either.
