Do I Need Glasses?! Please Help?!

Question: Do I Need Glasses?! Please Help?
I am a 14 year old girl. I had glasses from kindergarten to third grade and I was far-sighted.. Then I had 20/20 vision. When I went to my yearly appointment in October, my doctor told me I was slightly near-sighted.. I have been having a lot of trouble seeing the board in class and I have to read books very close to my face.. My vision has been blurred lately.. Also, most everybody in my family wears glasses/contacts

If the optometrist said you are near-sighted, then you probably need glaes. If the one you were examined by did not recommend glasses or contacts, then you might want to see another one.

The fact that almost everyone in your family wears corrective lenses makes it all the more likely that you DO need corrective lenses. By extension, if many in your family wear bifocals, you, too, will eventually need bifocals.

Sounds like the typical symptoms of being near sighted to me. If the doctor won't perscribe glasses and you are having problems seeing the board then you need to get a second opinion about this. Also insist on getting your actual perscription adn post it so that the opticians who answer can give you a more informed idea as to whether they'd expect you to need glasses. If a second doctor says you don't need them then you need to accept that and think about whether or not you are worried because your family all wear glasses./contacts and you expect to need them.

Maybe, at the time you had the last eye test, you were only slightly nearsighted (not enough to bother with glasses) but your vision has gotten worse since then. Probably the easiest way to test this is, borrow a fairly weak pair of distance glasses from someone and see if your distance vision becomes better. If so, there is a strong possibility you need glasses. If you don't like the current eye doctor, go somewhere else.

Well, clearly you need glasses. The optometrist said so.

Search in YouTube for 'improve posture' or 'good posture' and you will get many exercises that help you if you have an issue in this area.

Reading books a lot or using a pc can mess up your posture. The problem even has its own name: 'forward head posture'. This is about the head leaning forward, rounded shoulders, shoulder blades drawn further away from spine and hyper extension of the O/A joint at the base of the skull. Correcting this problem (if you have it) will make you feel very relaxed. You will be in a better mood and have more energy to go about your day.

Videos on posture tend to focus on either males or females. For females they talk a lot about the butt and the abs. Apparently one good exercise for this area is doing sit-ups (crunches).
If you HATE doing exercise then by all means don't do any. It's a free world so its up to you how you approach life and what you do in private. If you would rather wear glasses thats fine.

About being farsighted in kindergarten. Most kids at that age are farsighted (hyperopic) and a process called emmetropization occurs where the eyeballs change shape to bring about better near vision. Most people keep their vision at 20/20 until they reach 50 or 60. Then old age catches up and they cannot stop deterioration in their eyesight.

PS
I noticed in your profile you actually recommended to another girl that she do crunches. So do you already do them? You seem already capable of seeking out advice online for your own needs.
You mentioned that you hear a cracking sound in your back sometimes. That sounds bad and you either need to see a specialist or put all your effort into returning this problem area back to normal.
