Why does only my top eyelid twitch on one eye?!

Question: Why does only my top eyelid twitch on one eye?
I'm 19 and the top eyelid of my right eye, which has an astigmatism, keeps twitching. It twitches almost like a spasm in your body, but it last longer, and at its worst, it happens 9 or 10 times every 5 minutes. Lately, I've been dealing with a lot of problems. I want to transfer to another college, a long distance relationship close to an end, and feeling controlled by my father, him getting mad because I want to live my life and trying to explain to him. (But he never understands.) The first time this ever happened to me, I was 15 and my parents were going through a divorce. Would stress be the only reason why? What can I do to stop this from happening?

Answers:

I had this very recently, and I can sympathize that it is an extremely annoying thing to have happen. It certainly can be due to stress, sure, or sleep deprivation perhaps, but you may also want to consider the possibility of eye strain (which was what mine was due to). If you haven't had an eye exam in a good long while, or if you have trouble seeing clearly, it may be a good idea to see an eye doctor.

If neither of those are true, however, then it's certainly likely that it's either stress or sleep deprivation. As far as stress goes, the best thing I can suggest is to have a channel for your stress, an activity that helps you forget about your problems for a while and settle down (for me, it's always been video games). Any decent escape from reality will work.

It is stress. There really isn't anything you can do for it. It goes away on it's own.

Deal with the stress, since it is a tic, due to anxiety or lack of sleep.

Stress, too much caffeine, or lack of sleep could be the causes.

Good luck
