What can I use as a makeshift eye patch?!

Question: What can I use as a makeshift eye patch?
My father hurt his eye the other day and went to the hospital. The thing is, his eye is still very sensitive to any light and needs something to cover it up and where I live, It's very hard to get an actual eye patch to cover up his eye. What could I use to help him with this problem? Would sunglasses work to keep enough light out? Would a bandanna or scarf covering his eye work?

A little help would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:

Most pharmacies should sell eye patches. However, I think sunglasses would probably be a better option as the eye often needs to breathe to heal quicker. So at least the sunglasses would block out some light yet allow air and oxygen around the lens. I would avoid the scarf and banadana because it would cover the eye minimising healing and can allow a warm moist atmosphere behind the cover which can allow bacteria etc to breed.

Maybe you can get a cheap pair of wrap-around sunglasses and carefully put black electrical tape over the inside surface of the lens that covers the "bad" eye. Once it is healed, you could probably remove the tape and salvage the sunglasses for future use.
