Why are my eyes red and sort of itchy?!

Question: Why are my eyes red and sort of itchy?
I wear contacts and I fell asleep with them in overnight. Now they are slightly red. Like you can see the veins or the red lines well like two or three in each eye. I noticed this sunday and haven't wore contacts since then. I don't have glasses and my eyes are still slightly red. I went to the doctor and they gave me drops and a night cream. Are my eyes red from straining to see or could it be my seasonal allergies? Can I put my contacts back in?

And I know I should have glasses. Will get them when i get paid. I just lost my old pair.

As Im sure you are aware you should never fall asleep in your lenses, it causes your eyes to dry up from water now being able to travel as well, and quite often will make they eyes look bloodshot and red. It is also possible when taking lenses out that you have slept in, that you pull a bit of your epithelium - the top layer of your cornea off, this will grow back but can be very painful. Please leave your lenses out for as long as you can and get some lenses. This all will be aggravated by your allergies and your illness both of which will dry the eyes even more. Get some glasses and think about laser surgery.

your eyes need a rest from the contacts, if your eyes are uncontrollably itchy and watery and your sinuses are congested, runny nose, then maybe its allergies, maybe take a allergy pill and see what happens, but i think it is probably your eyes saying, take these effin contacts out for a while ;-)

Its quite risky to put your lenses back in until your eyes have healed. I know what this is like if you don't have glasses, but better have problems short term than risk permanent damage or being withotu lenses for longer.
