How strong is my prism lens?!


Question: How strong is my prism lens?
I recently got a prescription for a prism lens, and it said '5 in.' if I am not mistaken. Is this considered to be strong or weak? What are the ranges for prism lenses?

In your prescription the 'In' describes the position of the base of the prism and the 5 describes the strength of the prism. I'm note sure how far a prism can theoretically go, but I have seen a lot of prism prescriptions and that is quite high. Practically it generally depends on the strength of the other parts of the prescription and the type of lens that the prism has to be worked into. There are other options, such as stick on prisms, but they don't look too good. Normally I would see 1, 2, or 3 base up down in or out
any thing above that I would consider quite high.

Moderate prism. There really is no limit for prism lenses, the highest I have prescribed is 15.
