How bad is it to write/read in the dark?!

Question: How bad is it to write/read in the dark?
I am taking a 7 hour long 3D animation class, and the teacher mainly leaves the lights of the classroom off, so the back rows can see the front projector screen thing. Anyways, that class requires lots of notes taking, and I am relying on our computer screen light to do this. However, I would decrease the brightness of my monitor because I always feel its too bright (I never use the computer with lights off) So this makes my available light even dimmer.

Last week my eyes were dying, and it was the day we took the most notes. Is this going to make my eyes get worse? I still have 14 weeks left of that class... once a week luckily. Should I worry alot about this? Any suggestions? (I also wear contacts and that makes things worse cause it gets dry from staring at the computer so long)

I also could try taking notes on the computer, but I personally learn it much faster if I write it out.

Reading in the dark may cause eyestrain and headaches, however it will not do any permanent damage to your vision.

yeah it is because you're trying to focus while you're pupil is already dilated enough in the dark.

try a night light.

You shouldn't, as it could damage your eyesight after a while of reading in the dark.

Beacause you cant see and it hurts your eyes.
