Contact Lenses Overwear?!

Question: Contact Lenses Overwear?
Hi -

I've asked many questions on this topic, but never really got a definitive answer .
I'm 15, and have worn contacts for about 1.5 months. So far, everything is going pretty well (no eye pain). However, after reading about the terrible complications which arise from overwear, I'm now scared! I never sleep in contacts, and always take a break once a week from them. I do wear them for about 13-14 hours a day. Is that OK, or should I wear them for less?

That is fine. In some ways you haven't had a definitive answer as this varies between people. Overwear is very dangerous but you aren't doing anything which puts you in the danger zone. The warning signs are red eyes after you take your lenses out so keep an eye out for that. Pain isn't a warning as the effects of overwear mean you are less able to feel pain and so your lenses feel more comfortable. If you aren't getting red eye at teh end of teh day and you are getting regular checkups then you have no need to be concerned. Even the once a week break probably isn't necessary.

Do not be scared. I did get the complicatins from overwear , basically because I had bad advice from an optician in the early days of contact usage. It takes a lot to get this adn red eye is a classic early warning sign if you know what to look for. Opticians are also more vigilant at checkups.

It is good that you are giving your eyes a break, and it is just fine to wear your contacts for those hours. It is true that wearing your contacts too much can cause severe side effects but many people that they are reaching out to when they say that is the ones who forget to take them out and sleep in them or wear them every single day of the week. I always have a back up pair of glasses to see on the days I take a break so you can still see but it is not directly in your eye.

Worn contacts and glasses for awhile

I've had lenses for over 3 months now and I wear them about 18 hours everyday, no breaks (obviously no sleeping with lenses). I haven't encountered any issues with my lenses at all, so I'd say just wear them as you do regularly. If you've been cleaning them out well, you're fine, if not, then do so.

leaving contacts on while sleeping, overusing, and wearing it in pain will lead to scarring in the eye. Try to only wear it when you need it. If you need to face a computer 4-5 hrs, wear glasses instead. cheers

Well mine generally last only a month, but my mom uses hers for 3 months sometimes. Just throw them out when they start to make your eyes itchy or there is an itch. No one in my family has ever had any problems with out contacts.

HOW HAVE THEY NOT GOT STUCK IN YET!!!!you have to stop wearing them like that or they lid of the eye can form a bond with the contacts and stick to it
