Considering eye removal surgery?!

Question: Considering eye removal surgery?
Well, I was born without really much of a left eye. I've never had vision in the left eye but I've always had a prostetic eye. I lost it last week and the back up eye I have hurts because it's too little. I'm pretty much done growing so I've been considering just getting the eye itself removed and having a glass EYEBALL made, not a prostetic shell one.
Can anyone give me any information on this proceedure?
Is there anyone out there that can share their story? Like, do you know anyone with a prostetic that you can share? Obviously, this is gonna cost an arm and a leg (no pun intended, lol)
I've never had surgery :|

Normally you get the best result if you leave as much of the eye in place as possible. If you had no eye, what would the muscles that move your eye be attached to? To have the most natural eye movement for your prosthesis, you need your eye.

Usually when they do this, they put a (permanent) round implant in the place of the eyeball, and you still end up with the shell-shaped prosthetic. I can't recall having ever seen a round/ball-shaped prosthetic, even in Africa where missing eyes were a lot more common.

I'm an optometrist.
