Why are my new glasses so blurry?!

Question: Why are my new glasses so blurry?
I'm nearsighted. My prescription is pretty strong. I just got new glasses that do help me see better far away, but they make things more blurry close up than my old glasses.

Also, when I turn my head to the side things look more blurry and this does not happen with my old glasses. Is my prescription correct or is there something wrong with how the new lenses were made? What do you think?

Answers:

This has happened to me too. My second pair of glasses was to correct my nearsightedness and astigmatism. When I first started wearing them I felt like I was in a funhouse when I looked down, and I almost tripped a few times. I did not have that feeling with my first pair of glasses. I brought my new glasses back to the optometrist. They told me I'd adjust to them but that they'd give me another eye exam for free if I felt that the prescription was wrong. The prescription turned out to be the same so I stuck with the crazy funhouse glasses. Within a week or so I adjusted. So don't worry, you should get used to them. If you're unsure if you have the correct prescription, go back to the optometrist and ask!

I reckon give it 48 horus to get used to glasses. Your perscription is on the far side of moderate, not strong. I have slightly worse eyesight than you and also have astigmatis. I don't get this with my glasses, but it does take a while to adjust particulary if the astigmatism perscription has changed. However opticians can get it wrong , or the lens can be wrong or set wrong. I have had this happen to me once or twice and the optician has always fixed it. Some opticians are simply better than others at getting a decent perscription though. If it doesn't sort itself out after 48 hours and the optician doesn't sort it I'd be inclined to get my perscription and then get a second opinion.

My good eye is a little over -5, so I'm used to strong glasses. I usually get "see-sick" when I get new glasses, so I spend a couple of days chewing ginger candy to calm my stomach. Do give yourself 2 or 3 days to get used to the new prescription. If your eyes don't settle into the new lenses, go back to the optician and get the lenses double-checked.

well give it 48 hours, as someone else said. if they are still blurry, take them back to the optician, and demand they check the lenses are right. once the optician put the wrong lenses in my glasses, and i told my mum, but she said that it was because they were new and to stop bugging her because she'd just paid loads for them. no-one listened to me for 6 months, so guess how i felt, not being able to see anything for that long. and thats why i say demand lol
