Is it normal to get headaches after getting a new eye prescription?!

Question: Is it normal to get headaches after getting a new eye prescription?
I just got a new eye prescription 4 days ago. I'm near-sighted and wear my glasses all the time because I need them to do almost everything, like use a computer, drive, watch TV etc. The only thing I don't use them for is reading. My doctor actually lowered the strength of my prescription. I also got contacts for the first time. I've been wearing the contacts every day now and end up with headaches and at times seem to have problems focusing on things closer up. Are my eyes just adjusting to the new prescription as well as the contacts or would it be a good idea to talk to my doctor?

Answers:

I'd say 48 hours to get used to a new perscription and that headaches aren't a normal problem with the adjustment. You say he's lowered the strength of your perscription that might mean eye strain. When you say you have problems focusing on thinsgs closer up that might just be a function of the way you have been reading. One of the advantages about being near-sighted is that you can see things closer to than people with normal sight. If you haven't been using your glasses for reading then you may have been holding your glasses closer to you than a normal sighted person would in order to read comfortably. With contacts you've lost this advantage and may have to readjust the distance you use. I do find contacts more difficult to wear in front of computer screens but that tends to be about dry eyes. However I do think they make your eyes more sensitive to bright lights and it might be wroth turning down the brightness on the screen. When you first get contacts because you have all round vision for the first time you can feel that the world is very vivid and sharp. That could result in headaches or the impression of headaches. If it continues have a word with your optician.

It is normal to get headaches after getting a new eyeglasses prescription. If it takes more than a week to adjust, then I suggest contacting your doctor to make sure the eyeglasses were made correctly.

My brain is sensitive to any vision changes so I always get headaches when I update my prescription.

yes. it is said that it takes about a week to get used to your new prescription , and for your headaches to calm down.

if it's been more than a week , i would talk to your eye doctor and see what's up.
