Where should I go for an eye exam?!

Question: Where should I go for an eye exam?
I have trouble seeing things that are far away, especially the board in class, and people's faces such as when walking down the sidewalk. I had my eyes checked about three years back, and one eye was 20/25 and the other was 20/30, and the doctor also said that I have mild astigmatism. I got a super mild prescription, and got glasses to wear in class.

I feel like my eyes have gotten worse, so over the weekend, I went to Sterling Optical to have another exam, and to get new glasses. The doctor wasn't exactly helpful, and absolutely did not do a thorough exam, and I came out with a prescription hardly different than my old one, even though he said my eyes were now 20/30 and 20/40, and my astigmatism had worsened, only slightly in one eye, but a good deal in the other.

I want to go elsewhere and get another exam because I don't trust what the doctor at Sterling Optical did/said, and I think I need a stronger prescription than he gave me. I went there though, because I would be able to get my glasses the same day.

What should I do now?

Answers:

Just by simply looking at the glasses you won't be able to properly tell if they are a lot different. I've been wearing glasses for 10 years and over this time they've gradually worsened each time I go. My boyfriend also has a prescription, but to me his glasses do absolutely nothing at all to improve sight. If you are unhappy with the optician then visit another opticians.

Specsavers :D

If you want to keep your old frames, vision express have some stores that do a one hour sevice for your glasses, and they probably do eye tests ,too. but some smaller opticians have real nice frames for a small amount, and can test you then make your glases in three days (eg leightons)
or you could just walk into all the ops on the highstreet and look at their frames(see if theyre nice) and ask the receptionist when they would be able to make glasses fr.
Good luck!

years of eyetests
