I am short sighted but I don't like wearing glasses?!

Question: I am short sighted but I don't like wearing glasses?
I can see perfect close up but I am really short sighted. There have been times when I have had to walk out of cafes because I can't see what is up on the board, I can't read car number plates etc and people are often difficult to recognise if they stand more than 20 feet away.

I don't want to have to wear glasses full time. Would it be OK for me just to wear them for a few seconds every now and then when I need to see things?

Answers:

It is totally OK to get glasses and just wear them when you want, it won't damage your vision to do this (If that is wat you are worried about). The main problem with doing this is, people tend to forget and leave their glasses somewhere or sit on them, etc.

Totally fine to wear glasses on an as needed basis. Wearing glasses part time will not hurt your eyes. In your situation you may find it convenient to wear them for driving, at movies, reading signs but taking them off for near tasks. If you wear sunglasses you may consider transitions lenses that darken in the sun and lighten inside.

I used to wear contacts, but now I wear glasses. They're a lot less hassle and bother than contact lenses, and you can get tons of fashionable frames to suit your face. After a while you will learn to love them, and it's so much nicer than having to squint to see things.

you could get contacts or just a nice pair of glasses. i had the same problem. at first i only wore the glasses in class so i could see the chalk board, but i gradually just ended up wearing them all the time. plus, you won't be able to drive without glasses.

Sometimes if you wear the glasses for a while you don't need them after, and I know it seems horrible but wearing glasses is more comfortable than contacts and you should wear them.

I am exactly the same as you. I carry my glasses around with me in my bag and it's fine if you just want to slip them on to read things like the board in a cafe. Or you could consider contact lenses.

if you want to walk round in a blur, then yes. No effect on your eyesight.

can't imagine anyone being this vain though. If you get run over it's your fault.

i did that :) one eye improved while the other worsened
