Do people get the same prescription for eyeglasses and for contact lenses? If not, how are the differences for presbyopia, myopia, or hyperopia?

Eyeglass prescriptions are usually different than contact lenses in terms of power because it accounts for 3 levels of aberration. They correct the most accurately for near/farsightedness and astigmatism. They also account for the distance between your eye and the lens.

Contact prescriptions are quite close to glasses prescriptions in terms of power, but they are not exactly the same. For example, a patient may have a mild astigmatism of -.25 in their glasses RX, but this is so minor that contact lenses would not correct for it.

Presbyopia starts around age 40, the lens of the eye is less elastic and cannot accommodate for near distances. This is usually the "add power" in bifocal lenses.

Myopic is when the eye is too long from front to back, and corresponds with a "minus" rx. This is nearsightedness.

Hyperopia is when the eye is too short, and corresponds with a "plus" rx. This is farsightedness. Typically children grow out of this, as their eyes may grow to correct this refractive error.

they are different due to focal points
