Help me understand my new prescription glasses?!

Question: Help me understand my new prescription glasses?
I got new glasses today and I feel they are a little strong. I don't really understand my prescription, can you help me figure it out. I want to know more about my vision and if this is the right prescription for my need. I want to use them for the computer because my eyes strain after working on it for long preiods of time but I don't want to become dependent on them. This is what the Optician gave me.

You have a mild correction for astigmatism and farsightedness. Is this also for distance or just near? Only your doctor can tell you if this is your correct Rx but there are some clues you can use. Does it clear up your vision on the computer? At what distance is your vision the clearest with the glasses? How old are you?

When getting an exam it is helpful for the doctor to know the distance from your eyes to the computer screen. This will help determine your near Rx. Wearing glasses does not weaken your eyes.

You can't determine the type of use just by the numbers. Typically Rx's with a (+) are used for near work and/or computer, but some also have that type of correction for distance. Sounds though, like these are intended for near and computer use by your statement. If there is any question as to type of use, call the office that did the exam and ask what they were suggested for.

Since you had an eye test and this is the prescription you were given, then this should be the right prescription for your needs based on your visual complaint when you went in. This should allow your eyes to focus more comfortably at near and computer distances, but will likely blur your vision if you look beyond the computer.

The glasses will only allow you to see better for those activities and allow you to use the computer and read for longer periods of time without discomfort. You don't really get dependent on them rather than just preferring to see better, using them as needed.
