Question: I have astigmatism, can I get non prescription colored contacts and wear my glasses?

I really want some colored contacts for my costume and I was wondering if I can get non prescription colored contacts and just wear my glasses. My mom says I can't but she has a habit of not knowing what she's talking about, so I don't know if it's true.

Yes you can wear colored contacts and your eyeglasses. Just as long as the contacts are plano (not prescription) lenses.

We have a ton of patients who wear their colored contacts with no prescription power. This is a great question for your optometrist. Just tell him/her what you would like to do and you can get a fit for colored contacts and recommendations for your eyeglasses.

If the contacts have no lens power (change eye color only) you can wear them and wear your prescription glasses over them and nothing bad will happen.

Some people do the opposite, wear prescription contacts with fake (fashion) glasses over the contacts, that is OK too.
