Do glasses made from titanium contain nickel anywhere?!

Question: Do glasses made from titanium contain nickel anywhere?
I have a nickel allergy and have tried plastic glasses but the metal hinges on the side cause a reaction. I heard that with most titanium framed glasses the hinges on the arm are made from a cheaper metal that would cause a nickel allergy, is this true? Thanks

Answers:

I read at one time that if a frame says Titanium on it, it is at least 75% and if it says pure titanium it is 99-100%. If it is a real inexpensive frame it is not pure titanium. Some of the demo lenses (fake lenses in the display frame) will say 100% titanium and/or nickel free hypoallergenic so you can tell which ones are. The Optician should know which ones will suit you best.

Having nickel and other alloys in the hinges wouldn't cause an allergy problem anyway. The hinges are far enough from your skin and don't ever touch your skin, so it isn't really a concern.

The screws are never titanium either , but that doesn't cause any problems.

There are frames that are 100% titanium. There are also frames that are labeled titanium that may be an alloy or have parts made of other materials. Read labels carefully or ask your optician. All frames made of "memory" metal are alloys, sometimes including nickel in the alloy.
