can you strengthen your eyesight by not wearing glasses?!

Question: Can you strengthen your eyesight by not wearing glasses?
I've had glasses since... well since I was little. I'm 17 now. I have short term vision.

I've recently started to think, are you actually weakening your eyes by relying on something else (glasses)? I mean you're not using your eyes to their fullest if you're relying on glasses...

can I strengthen my eyesight by minimizing use of glasses, only using them when I really need them?

Answers:

Your problems with your vision are about the shape of your eyeball. Its isn't the rigth shape to focus the light in the right place. Your glasses make the light focus correctly. This is not about your eyes being "strengthened" like a muscle. All that will happen if you stop wearing them is that you won't be able to see properly. Scientific studies show no evidence that wearing/not wearing glasses makes any difference to your eyesight. This isn't a question of using your eyes "To their fullest". If you don't like your glasses then consider contacts and surgery may also be an option for you later.

Think about this...how did your eyes get bad enough to need glasses to begin with , if not wearing them can make them stronger ?

As long as your eyes are open , they are being used " to their fullest " ( which doesn't really mean anything )

All glasses do is focus the incoming light to the proper place on your retina , and won't weaken or strengthen your eyes whether you wear them or not.

If you start not wearing your glasses then you will strain your eyes. That won't strengthen them, it will make them weaker since they will have to work harder to see properly.

Ive heard that argument but i dont think so

Ive been wearing glasses since i was 11 and im 19 now
