Any chance I'll develop eye problems?!

Question: Any chance I'll develop eye problems?
My entire family, both on moms and dad side has vision problems, even my brother and sister. Every single person wears glasses with problems ranging from spotty vision, nearsightedness, farsightedness, etc.

Yet I don't. In fact, I've always tested 20/20 until a few years ago, I have consistantly scored 20/15. One doctor even said it was 20/12 (different scale he used? or actual increased perform?).

I'm 20 years old and recently just got an internship in which vision is important and the 20/15 I test at is very noteworthy.

Other than natural presbyopia, can I expect any problems throughout my life and what are the chances now that I am at the age when I stop growing/developing?

Answers:

Hello. There is a genetic link for ametropia, but there are many other risk factors and it's not completely understood which factor plays the biggest part. Me and my siblings are all nearsighted yet my parents don't need glasses at all except for reading. It's likely that your distance vision will remain stable now. It usually does stay stable once you get into your 20s. That doesn't mean you won't get any other eye problems, it's just likely that you won't need glasses for the distance. Hope that helped...

Both my parents and 2 siblings & I wear glasses. 2 siblings don't. One is now 30, never needed them, the other is 23, doesn't need them. Just from my own experience, you may not develope any more problems ... but, better keep an eye on your eyes! No pun intended :/ sorry

my life.
