Can i wear someone's unused contacts?!

Question: Can i wear someone's unused contacts?
I have the SAME prescription as my mom and i have been wanting to practice putting in contacts.I would practice with her unused ones. I wanted to get the hang of putting contacts in and out because the fitting is very expensive and i want to make sure I can at least get them in first. So, is it ok just to practice with her UNUSED lenses?

I would say that its okay to practice putting them in but you don't want to wear them for a long period of time. This is because when u get contacts the curvature of your eye is measured. So your moms eye curvature and yours is most likely different. Contacts would then probably cause discomfort to your eyes.

Her perscription may be the same but its very unlikely that the fit of them will be the same. This actually makes a difference to putting them in and out and particularly if they are too tight you might hurt your eyes getting them out. Also glasses perscriptions dont' translate directly to contact perscriptions so you might end up with odd eyesight which will make it doubly difficult to get them in/out properly.

Now getting lenses in and out is something you learn as a skill - takes about a month for most people. But there is no need to learn this before you go for a fitting. You will be able to get the lenses in and out after some practice and the optician checkign how you do it. So wait until you have lenses of your own to practice on. The optician will give you trial sets. What you need to know though is that lenses aren't cheap and you have to budget for ongoing checkups to keep your eyes healthy so if the expense of the initial fitting is a problem you need to look carefully to see if you can afford lenses. They are wonderful, but not cheap.

I would be very surprised if you had the same prescription as your mother.
As before the curvature has got to be exactly the same.
The whole point of a fitting done by the optician is to make sure you are not causing damage to your eyes as well as making sure of the prescription.
It is very silly and dangerous to experiment with your eyes.
