Question: If my glaases prescription is -4 diopters with -0.50 of astigmatism, corrected to 6/6/20/20?
If the 0.50 anstigmatism correction was removed what would my vision be would it be reduced to say 6/9/ 20/30? or worse

your astigmatism is really mild. It's not possible to predict your visual acuity without the correction for astigmatism, but it would be surely not much lower than it is now.



Optometrist have the 1/4 or 4x rule. If your sphere (-4.00) is less than 4x your astigmatism correction, then you are safe. Also, we have what is called a spherical equivalent, so your glasses prescription would be -4.00 -0.50x180 or 4.25 sph. Either way, you should see the same. If anything you would go from 20/20 to 20/20 minus a letter or two.

That is a fairly mild degree of astigmatism so you won't lose much to it. Mine is massively larger than this and it means it does reduce my vision quite a bit. I don't believe that the optician removing the lens was of necessity the astigmatism bit could have been any one of the many checks that opticians bore one with :)



You might just miss a letter or two on the 20/20 line. I would be very surprised if it decreased to 20/30.
