Ouch! What can I do for my eye?!

Question: Ouch! What can I do for my eye?
While in the shower earlier I got facial scrub in my eye and quickly flushed it with water but it is still in there or maybe I scratched my inner eye rubbing it. It wont stop hurting. I have already used Visine and it did nothing for it.

Any suggestions on what to do for it?

Its going to take about 24 hours for it to ease off. In the meantime the best thing you can do is leave it to heal naturally. go to the opticians if it starts to get worse or doesn't heal in 24 hours. It is VERy difficult to take your mind off pain in the eyes. I find that they hurt less if you use your far vision rather than your near vision - computer screens and reading are worse , but going out for a walk and giving your eyes fresh air which is the best is not always practical.

First off, dont go to the ER and NEVER GO TO AN OPTICIAN. Opticians are people that deal with glasses only (at least they legally should be dealing with glasses only in the USA). If you feel like you need to, go to an Optometrist. I have done what you have done before and it does hurt.
First, stop the Visine use and get artificial tears (Systane Ultra, Soothe XP, Blink are a few good drops). Visine has harsh chemicals in them. It gets the red out of your eyes because it is a chemical that makes your eyes white, but then your eye gets used to the chemical and returns to red faster so you put more and more drops and your eye just gets redder and redder.

A cold compress (ice water) will make your eye feel better. If you wake up with discharge from your eye like a green or yellow mucous or your eye lashes are stuck together when you wake up, then go to an Optometrist. You could have an infection.
