Eye Infection/pink eye, red 6 weeks later?!

Question: Eye Infection/pink eye, red 6 weeks later?
Hello,

I'm in India working at an orphanage and eye infections started to go around all of the kids. I wasn't too worried about getting but sure enough I did. Most the kids who get the infection have it for 5-9 days then their eyes are completely back to normal.

My eyes turned red one day, and the next morning my left eye was very swollen and my right eye was just a little swollen. After about 4 days most of the swelling went down. I was putting in Festive-D eye drops, which is an Indian drug that has Methyl Cellulose, Phosphate and Ofloxacin, which help with eye and ear infections.

I was also compressing my eyes with a warm washcloth for 5-15 minutes before bed and in the morning. after about 2 weeks my right eye was back to normal but my left eye still had a really dark red spot. In about 3-4 weeks it was still there but not as dark or big. Now, 6 weeks later it is smaller, not as bright but still noticeably there!?

My questions are, why? Should I be concerned? How long will it take to completely heal? And is there anything else I should be doing?

I stopped the eye drops 3 weeks ago because I ran out. And I don't compress my eye anymore.

Thank you so much!

It sounds like a burst blood vessel, which can take quite a while to heal. Yahoo answerers can only give best guesstimates, see an eye specialist for a definitive diagnosis.

The best way to avoid contagious disease from spreading, is to practice good hygiene especially in the type of setting you are working in. Make sure you and all the children wash their hands frequently and if at all possible, wash cloths and towels should not be shared. Toys, should be disinfected with alcohol on at least a daily basis.
