How do you "translate" an optician's prescription?!

Question: How do you "translate" an optician's prescription?
I know I am short sighted, I just want to understand the prescription a bit better? Like how bad/good my eyes are. My prescription says:

Sph. Cyl. Axis
R +0.50 -0.75 100
L +0.75 -0.25 70

Answers:

You are not shortsighted. You have something called mixed astigmatism in your right eye and something called compound hyperopic astigmatism in your left eye.

Astigmatism means that the cornea is not spherical. Mixed astigmatism means that you have a shortsighted astigmatism and a long sighted astigmatism.

Compound hyperopic astigmatism means that you have a longsighted astigmatism.

Good luck

The prescription does not tell you anything about your eyesight.

Your corrected visual acuity tells you about your eyesight. Unless the optician told you your vision is not good, you likely have at least 20/20 vision with glasses and that is good.

why not ask them. they usually answer these types of questions.
