A lot of white/caucasian children are born with blue eyes and will have lighter features in childhood, it takes time for their pigment production to kick in and settle.
That's why they're often called baby blonde and baby blues.
When I was born my hair was jet black, it fell out and grew back in blonde, up until the age of 5 I kept that colour along with blue eyes. Up until 13 they darkened slightly to brown / green-blue and through my teen years they darkened again, my hair has now settled on black and my eyes are green.
The largest contributing factor is down to hormones, certain hormones have a lot of effect on pigment production. The ages when you tend to notice drastic changes in hair/eyes are 4-5 / 8-9 / 11-16 when the body's growth hormones are kicking in.
It may be completely natural for you. I was born with black hair but now it is dirty blond. I was born with gray eyes, and now they are blue, and they often change to green, and it might be DNA. When you were born maybe your body wasn't mature enough to grow dark hair and dark eyes. Maybe you needed some time to mature.
