Can you have laser eye surgery at 15 or 16 years old?!

Question: Can you have laser eye surgery at 15 or 16 years old?
Hi there!

I am 15 years old and I really would like to get laser eye surgery as I really don't like wearing glasses because I am short-sighted an I find contact lenses uncomfortable... :/

Am I too young to get laser eye surgery? Would I be able to get it when I am 16 next year?
Also, please can you tell me how much it is likely to cost?

Many thanks in advance! :)

I think it might be worth your while trying to see if you can find some contact lenses which are comfortable. It can take a while to find ones which work. You do't say much here about what you have tried and why they are uncomfortable.

You have to be finished growing, and your prescription must be stable for about 2 years before even considering it,

That usually doesn't happen until the early to mid 20's at the earliest.

Getting it done too early means that when you eyes change again maybe 6 months later...you will be back in glasses again.

Lasik only fixes the problem that is there at the time of the surgery , it doesn't stop future changes

I think teens are able to get laser eyes surgery if you talk to a doctor, altough i think they don′t recomend it unless you are 21 years old or above. Only because if you′re not done growing your eyes are not, and you might be back with glasses later on in life. I′m not sure what the cost would be but it′s somewhere around $2,000-2,500.

I got the cost from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_lasik_eye_surgery_cost and the other info from various web sites :)

do not waste your money, after sometime you will have problem again, glasses and lenses are the best solutions, however you should able to do that

It is well worth it, once you think about how much you will pay for contacts/glasses

You will probably have to wait until you are about 20...

yes you are,im 18 and have nearsightedness too
you have to wait until you are 21 or above because your Vision will be more stable

no you need to let you eyes fully develop first
