Floaters and flashing in the eyes....new retinal tear?!

Question: Floaters and flashing in the eyes....new retinal tear?
i'm in a new town so i went to an optometrist to ask to be seen to make sure that there are no problems, and the receptionist told me they cant see me until a couple of weeks. I told her my symptoms and she said, "are you a patient of dr._____" and i said no i'm new in town. and then she said (not word for word but pretty close) "then i dont care what your symptoms are, you have to make an appointment like everyone else, and the next available one is dec.3. and NO he cannot see you just for your problem, you'll have to book a complete eye exam too"

I have a history of these floaters and flashing happening and needed to get it treated fast. Should I get an airplane ticket and fly back home to my regular optometrist?? I don't really have that much money for a plane ticket but not sure what should I do?

The other answerer apparently doesn't know that untreated retinal detachment can lead to blindness.

If you think you are having another detachment, call OPHTHALMOLOGISTS, not optometrists. Explain to them all that you believe you are experiencing a detachment. If absolutely none can see you within the next day, and you continue to believe you are having a detachment, I would suggest you head to an emergency room at a larger hospital which would be equipped to deal with a detachment.

I get floaters when I get migraines. Are you getting headaches or nausea with it? If so it is probably just a migraine. If not then I would suggest that you contact your Optometrist or Family Physician at home and find out what he/she says. If you are just visiting then just wait until you return home.

And if you have a history of this problem why is it so important to get treated immediately? You haven't had it treated yet so what's the hurry now?
