Nearsighted people tend to have larger pupils. Farsighted people have smaller pupils. One reason is that pupil constriction happens along with accommodation. Far sighted people have to accommodate all the time.

Generally speaking, dilated pupils are better suited for distance vision (far sighted).
When you are frightened, one of the physiologic responses is your pupils dilate (via the sympathetic nervous system). This is from our caveman days, so you can see far as you're running from the tiger chasing you.
Constricted pupils better for close vision (near sighted), like reading (but you also need accommodation of the lens).
(But of course your eyes will dilate in the dark too, but I don't believe that is what you are referring to.)

The size of pupils is unrelated to the distance of focus.
Pupil size determines the amount of light that goes through. Near/far sightedness is determined by the focal length (shape) of the lens and cornea.

the dilation of the pupil has no baring on whether you are nearsighted or farsighted at all, people with 20/20 vision have eyes that dlate in low light and constrict in abundant light, its a response to light and darkness however the shape of the eye is relative

your pupils enlarge or get smaller in response to light, in the dark the pupils are larger, in the light smaller, sometimes pupils can respond to fear or excitement also.
