Yes you can. Your optometrist has been required to give you a copy of your prescription for more than 20 years in the US.

Absolutely. Your eye doctor is obligated to give you your prescription to take away. Don't forget to have them write down your PD (pupil distance) as well, if you want bifocals, trifocals, or progressive lenses.

What I would suggest is finding a pair of frames you like somewhere, and then buying them, along with new prescription lenses, at www.replacementlensexpress.com. They specialize in the lenses, and are slowly building up an online catalogue. So for now, your best bet is to e-mail them the make and model of the frames you are interested in and they will get you a price quote, most likely at a wholesale rate. This company is based in Connecticut, unline a lot of other online companies which tend to be based overseas and take a really long time to get you your order.

Yes you can. Legally, at least in the USA, the eye specialist that examined your eyes must give you a copy of your prescription if you request it. Under HIPPA, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, every patient is entitled to copy of their medical record, which includes prescriptions, test results, doctor notes etc.

Yes you can. Might I suggest purchasing your glasses online? It's the best and most affordable way nowadays. I've been telling people to go online for a while now and people have thanked me for saving them hundreds of dollars. Generally, online glasses have as good or better quality that those at your local optician's store. If you want more information, google up 'glassyeyes' and check out their forum for more information.

A suggestion for a good online eyeglasses store: http://www.optical4less.com/
Check them out, they've been one of the better stores out there throughout my experience.

My 3+ years of online eyeglasses shopping.

Most states require that doctors cannot hold you to buying vision correction from them just because you've used their service for eye examination(s)

Yes, you can. Just remember to bring your prescription along!

yes you can.

Dear Cassie

You are very welcome to wear eyeglasses. The reason why you have to wear glasses and no-one else is simply down to GENETICS. Any delay in wearing glasses will simply add to the trouble you already have with seeing correctly. Right now you have bad eyes but if you choose to wear glasses you will then be able to see clearly (with no side-effects).

If your prescription is out of date feel free to visit our clinic. One of my asssitants will gladly establish your current prescription. We can also show you around place and allow you to witness our state-of-the-art selection of..."super glasses".

Please note, spending too much time staring at the TV or a video game has never been proven to cause bad eyesight. And spending time indoors all day has never been linked to poor vision. These are all lies made by misinformed non-professionals. Dont be fooled into thinking anything otherwise, young man.

Being the well cared for client that you are, i would like to use this opportunity to mention the many examples of websites that are currently spreading FALSE and misleading information across the internet. These sites are noticeable from their suggetions of "eye exercises" and "natural methods" to achieve "eyesight improvement". The whole idea they are suggesting is completely 100% untrue. These sites only exist so to trick you into lowering your guard and for you to part with your cash in exchange an "opportunity" to improve your natural vision.

Let me put it this way. If anyone was was proven to have improved their vision from these methods then why does EVERYONE still wear glasses?
So if you do happen to receive advice conflicting with that given by your trusted eye doctor then please immediately notify your local authorities immediately with the nature of the scam.
