My eyesight is really really bad!?!

Question: My eyesight is really really bad!?
Hi guys, i just want to talk about my vision and hear other people's view. My eyesight is -5.00 and -4.75 and sometimes i wear glasses and sometimes i wear contact lenses. I really hate having bad eyesight but i try to be cheerful by thinking that it is much better to have a bad eyesight rather than being blind or disabled. But i look really stupid with my glasses and contact lenses cost so much and it is so annoying to put it out and on.

Also, the thing concerns me the most is that my vision will get worse every year and now i am fifteen and i heard that my eyesight might stop getting worse when i am about 20 or so but until that, what if my eyesight gets -10 or -20? How am i supposed to shower? it is just so depressing!

It is highly unlikely that your vision will get that bad.. It is possible that it may get worse until your vision stabilizes, usually in your early to mid-twenties. You are taking a very mature attitude by realizing it is far better to wear glasses or contacts than to be blind. Please stop worrying about how bad your vision might get and concentrate on being the bright, mature teenager you appear to be. If your truly worried about how bad your vision might get, discuss it with your eye specialist at your next appointment. Yahoo answerers can only guess at what might happen and everyone is different, there is no right answer you will find here.

I agree with what Pennybar has said. I just thought I'd sympathize though as I felt exactly teh same at 15. Although I was lucky and my parents bought me contacts which were unusual and even more expensive at teh time I hated not having perfect vision and like yourself worried about what would happen. Now I'm in my 50's my vision is slightly worse - contacts and glasses have improved vastly though and are not as hard to wear as they were years ago. I won't tell you it no longer bothers me at all - I would still love perfect vision but it is more of a minor rather than a major annoyance and worry. It is something which becomes a routine part of your life and who knows how much things may improve in your lifetime to give yet unthought of options? My eysight is slightly worse than yours and yes showering can be a problem although I do shower with my lenses in . It is something you learn techniques to deal with if your eyesight is worse although I do wish hotels wouldn't do white walls and a white bath.

You need to sort out your priorities. Wearing contacts/glasses is a huge inconvenience, and your eyes are one of the most important parts of your body (most people would rather lose both their legs than lose their eyes). Are you doing anything that is making your eyesight worse? Staring at a computer screen for hours on end for example?

The first step to reducing further deterioration is to stop whatever you may be doing to make your eyesight worse. On top of this you can do special eye-exercises that actually help to improve your eyesight. I had to wear glasses for two months before I got sick of them and started looking for a way to improve my eyesight without glasses.

I eventually found a program that helped me to improve my eyesight to the extent that I could at least drive my car without glasses. Here's the link if you want to check out the program: http://tinyurl.com/vwglasses2 (just copy and paste the url into your browser)
