What is causing my Monocular Diplopia?!

Question: What is causing my Monocular Diplopia?
Over the last year I seem to have developed monocular diplopia in my right eye (always there, just more noticeable at times.) My left eye is absolutely fine. The diplopia is vertical. Apart from the ghost image the actual vision seems quite clear. The effect is very noticeable with LEDs and highly contrasted images. I've done the pinhole test which seems to correct the problem. I have very mild myopia in my right eye as well. When I wear my glasses (I never normally wear them) it also seems to correct the diplopia. I'm 30 and male.

Any idea on where the problem could be? I've read a little about early stage cataracts, high order aberrations and/or problems with the lens and cornea? Could a standard opticians work this one out or should I be looking for an Opthamologist?

Answers:

Monocular double vision is caused by a problem with the eyeball itself. Monocular diplopia causes of seeing double are usually due to: dry eye, cataracts, astigmatism, retinal disorders or macular degeneration. You can also have temporary diplopia, which is very often caused by alcohol intoxication or a concussion.

If you experience a sudden, inexplicable onset of diplopia vision, contacting an eye health professional should be your next call! Treatment for seeing double starts by determining its cause. Treating the underlying health condition often corrects many binocular double vision situations.

As for other seeing double circumstances, vision correction treatment may involve things such as glasses, eye surgery and vision therapy.

Over time, binocular diplopia vision may appear to go away. This is because your brain eventually suppresses one of the images to avoid seeing double.

Personally, I would go straight to a certified opthamologist. They are the best in their field so you will most likely get the best answers from them.

Good luck and I hope this helps! :)
