Is eye muscle surgery worth the risk if your condition is very mild?!
Question: Is eye muscle surgery worth the risk if your condition is very mild?
I have had a slight strabismus since I was a kid. My eyes cross inward a little more than they should. But I have good vision in both eyes. I switch eyes depending on where I'm looking.
The reason I never had surgery is because the misalignment was so small that my parents didn't think it was worth the risk. I also had good vision in both eyes.
I just got a new eye doctor and he is telling me I should get the surgery. I'm not sure I want it. I know my eyes are crossed, but most people don't notice it right away so its not really something that makes me insecure or shy. Some people even tell me its "cute" including my boyfriend.
My doctor says I should have the surgery to get depth perception which I have never had. Also I can't see 3D movies because my eyes don't work together.
Is the risk and money worth the reward? I don't know what depth perception or 3D looks like so I don't know what I'm missing. Is it worth it?

You are a victim of intermittent alternating esotropia. Surgery isn't risky. Glasses may help.
