Eyesight deterioration because of pubery?!

Question: Eyesight deterioration because of pubery?
A year and a half ago, when I was 12, I got prescribed glasses. They were for nearsightedness. I got my eyes tested again this year, and I got a new prescription. It was double of the old prescription. I was pretty shocked, because I got thinking; what if my eye sight keeps on deteriorating this much EVERY year. But then I remembered, I got the old prescription BEFORE puberty, and my new one after I fully hit it. So, does anyone think that it may be puberty, or will I be blind by the time I'm 20?

Answers:

i an an adult and am much older than you, but i was yr age, 12, when i first got glasses. My eyesight changed a lot over the next few years, then slowed down.
I think that when a lot of people, (however old they are), first get glasses they notice that their eyes change quite a lot at first, and the prescription may change, and yes get a bit worse, but then often it slows down and changes less, at least it did for me. Everyone is different and some of us have bad eysight and some of us not so bad, for me, my eyes are very bad, mainly because my father has very bad eyesight, and unfortunately so have I. My younger brother wears glasses too, but his eyes arent nearly as bad as mine. A good friend of mine got glasses when she was 17 and had grown up, her eyes changed a lot for a while then slowed down.

Im not sure if puberty caused this or not, maybe ask yr optometrist if you are unsure about anything.

Its fairly normal for eyesight to start to deteriorate at puberty until you are in your 20's. This is because its caused by the shape of your eyeball and this is affected as you grow. Do NOT worry that you are going to be blind - this is a common worry adn I remember panicking myself. Eyesight has to be extremely poor for it not to be correctable to absolutely normal by glasses/contacts adn there aer improvements in what is available every year. You don't say what your perscription is so its not possible to judge how bad your eyesight currently is, however double your old one might not even be that bad. If you don't have a very strong perscription to start off with then double is not much. This is a nuisance but it is a manageable one and you need not fear going blind.
