wearing glasses after Lasik?!

Question: Wearing glasses after Lasik?
My eyesight is very bad -11 -12. I'm 25 and my eyesight has stabilized about 2 years ago. I did many eye checkups inculding the thickness of cornea and it's ok to do the surgery. But after the surgery my eyesight won't be 20/20. It may be about -1.5 -2 . The main question is "Is it possible to wear glasses after the surgery or not". Some doctors told me it's ok to wear glasses after Lasik others said no glasses after Lasik. I am totally confused

Answers:

Yes, you can wear glasses after Lasik. Lots of people don't want to, with the attitude of "if I spent that much money I never want to wear glasses again", but it doesn't mean you can't. (Contact lenses, on the other hand, don't tend to fit well on corneas that have been flattened through surgery. I've done it on a couple patients, but it's typically not overly comfortable.) Frankly, going from -11 or -12 to a much more moderate prescription of -1 or -2 still makes for a big improvement: the glasses will be more comfortable, lighter, and cause less distortion, and your uncorrected vision will still be better (e.g. alarm clock in the middle of the night, vision in the shower, etc.) than it is now.
There are also other surgical procedures that, while more invasive, may be able to correct your full refractive error. Talk to your ophthalmologist (or whoever did your measurements) and see what the options are.

I'm an optometrist.

Sorry, I could not e-mail you. Yes, you can wear glasses to improve your post-lasik vision,

The following paragraph states that some people will not be able to "get rid of glasses" to see 20/20, which pretty much mean many people do need and wear glasses post Lasik. This partial paragraph was copied from this website http://www.agingeye.net/lasik/lasik.php
I would advise you to read the article on the website and please think about the irreversible risks inherent in Lasik surgery prior to committing to the surgery..

Therefore, most - but not all - people will have 20/20 vision after LASIK without glasses. Some people will not be able to "get rid of glasses" to see 20/20. Taken together, this means that LASIK will almost certainly reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses, however, there is no
certainty and there can be no guarantee that you will be able to achieve perfect vision without glasses. You have 90 to 95% chance of passing the vision test to get a drivers license without glasses (i.e 20/40 vision) and therefore 90 to 95% chance that you will be able to legally

I wish you much luck.

I think glasses will work after Lasek; contacts after lasik is sometimes hard to do because the shape of the cornea has been changed so sometimes they don't fit very well.

It seems like a lot of money to spend, considering you will still need glasses to correct the part that they can't do with lasek. You might want to look into regular contacts. Also there are other methods of surgical correction, implants, etc that might be worth investigating.
