So nothing can fix my lazy eye? Should I give up?!

Question: So nothing can fix my lazy eye? Should I give up?
I was born with severe "paralytic strabismus". My right eye was badly turned in and paralyzed. I had two surgeries to try and straighten the eye. One when I was a child and another when I was 16. But it could not be done. There was not enough muscle for my eye to point straight. All my doctors say I am the "worst case they have ever seen" and nothing can be done if surgery can't treat it.

So I eventually stopped seeing the eye doctor because I was tired of the disappointment and have perfect vision in my left eye. I already lost the vision in my right eye because it was always crossed and my brain "turned it off" a long time ago.

If multiple doctors have said there's nothing else that'll correct your eye turn, then that's probably the truth. That being said, don't dismiss eyecare entirely: you need to have routine checkups to ensure that your left eye stays healthy, because if anything does happen where you lose vision in your good eye, you'd be screwed.

I'm an optometrist.
