Answers:

6/12 means that you need letters twice as high to be able to read letters at a distance.

Visual acuity is measured by reading an eye chart. It is not possible to guess at visual acuity from a prescription.

If you wear glasses, why are you interested in your acuity without glasses?

What is your visual acuity with glasses?

Your visual acuity is probably 6/6/ or perhaps almost 6/4 with glasses.

Optometrist

The term 6/XX means that you are standing 6 metres away from the eye chart and the smallest line you can see is the XX line. So 6/ 12 means you are 6 metres away and can see the "12" line. The size of the letters in each line is chosen so that at a distance of XX metres, the XX line letters subtend 5 minutes of arc.

The power of your glasses cannot be used to determine your 6/XX eyesight. Visual acuity (6/XX) is totally different measurement than glasses power. If you want to know your visual acuity, call and ask your eye doctor. It would have been measured at your last eye exam.

I'm an optometrist
