Will glaucoma make me go blind?!

Question: Will glaucoma make me go blind?
I am 13 years old, and somehow I think I have glaucoma. Things don't seem as LIGHT as before, now they are just LITTLE LITTLE bit not dark and I'n not sure yet such as the computer screen etc, I think I'm just not sure. So this is why I am panicing, I don't know if I am going to go blind or what ever. It really sucks. If I had glaucoma would the effects be obvious? I also see halos around lights, as if you were to have wattery eyes and when I see a camera flash. The flash is still there, then it fades away quickly.

I didn't have any symptoms when I was diagnosed and my pressure was extremely high. I was getting checked to have glasses and they were doing the routine exam where they do the air puff test, they told me my pressure was so high the machine wasn't able to read it and sent me to a specialist. I had no idea. It runs in my family. Does it run in your family? Maybe you are in front of the computer screen for too long. That can be really bad on your eyes. I was talking with my doctor a few weeks ago about going blind. He said it is a very serious thing, but if I take my medicine (drops) correctly I shouldn't have any problems. He said he has seen people on the very break of blindness come in his office and say they have no idea, no symptoms at all. Just go to the doctor ok? There's no sense in worrying if you really don't need to.

Glacoma effects you peripheral vision usually slowly but if you catch it in time theres treatments that will keep you from going blind. Halos are a symptom of having glacoma. Do you have intense pains in your eyes if you do, you need to go to the hospital immediately because it could be the worst kind of glacoma that could could make you go blind right then, but that type of glacoma is very rare. If you go get it check out before this then you will get treated for it and you should be fine. If you do have glacoma and its already effecting your eyes then the damage is permanant, thats way you should go see an eye doctor asap. But you may not have glacoma at all. Its best to go see a doctor though.

Good luck!!

I have suspected glacoma

the effects of glaucoma are usually not obvious in early stages. see an ophthalmologist and have and exam and measurement of you globe pressures--- that is how glaucoma is diagnosed.

It is unlikely that you have childhood glaucoma. Most children get eye tests from an early age and these days it would be unlikely that any optician would not notice something that serious.

Have a look at the web address for the signs and symptoms of childhood glaucoma, http://www.glaucoma.org/learn/does_your_…

Trying to diagnose yourself is never a **** thing - any optician would check you out and at your age the tests should be free (in the UK) - you may need an adult with you - if this is not possible then at 13 you are OK to visit your GP without a parent to discuss anything that is troubling you and they would see you without much hassle.

Good luck - and try not to worry about this you are more than likely just spending too long looking at a computer screen (and TV), even at work people are told not to spend longer than 30-45 minutes looking at a computer screen without then resting for 5-10 mins.

Take care - and try not to worry yourself.
