is it safe to put tap water in to your eyes?!

Question: Is it safe to put tap water in to your eyes?
thanks

Answers:

There is no reason to put tap water in your eyes.

All you are doing is disrupting the natural tear film which is there to lubricate and fight off infections caused by bacteria..

So, you are just making your eyes dryer, and removing the natural protection of the tears.

Our eyes do a great job of keeping themselves clean , bacteria filled water isn't needed.

The other poster is wrong, even in "developed" countries tap water contains acanthamoeba.

For example, contact lens wearers should not store their lenses in tap water. The US CDC has reported an increase in cases of eye infection caused by contact lens wearers not handling their lenses correctly.

are you in a 3rd world country? If so.

NO

Are you in the continental US or a developed region of the world which uses a public filtration system and puts fluoride into the water to help make it better for your teeth? If so.

YES

Do you drink your water? If yes then it is probably safe to rinse your eyes. Although nothing is really safe everything has its risks.
