Do contact lenses make things seem wider?!

Question: Do contact lenses make things seem wider?
I'm long sighted and have been wearing glasses for quite a few years now so I'm really used to it. I started wearing contact lenses for about a week now and everything seems slightly bigger, especially my face and body when I look in a mirror. I did some reason and people some say that contacts let you see how everyone else sees however some say the opposite and that contacts make everything bigger... So which is it exactly? I'm also quite long sighted (5.50) if that makes any difference.

I guess it would look the same if you didn't need glasses. It won't magnify things like glasses (to me it does) but I'm not sure though cuz I never had glasses or contacts before.

If you're short sighted (aka nearsighted, aka myopic, aka a minus prescription) then yes, everything should seem bigger, because your glasses shrink everything. With contacts, everything is the size it should be. If you're farsighted (hyperopic) then it's the opposite effect, although typically this isn't as noticeable as for nearsighted folks.

I'm an optometrist.

Yes. Things will be the correct size with contact lenses on.
