What are these things in my eyes?!

Question: What are these things in my eyes?
There are many things that seem to be in my eyes... or so I think.

First, it is as if I see "static" or rain in any object I see. Things, that look like dots, are always moving, like electricity, jumping about here and there. Nothing has a still existence, it is as if there is a constant "raining" everywhere. It is very unnoticeable, unless I focus. They are seem very clearly when I close my eyes, mostly gray dots flashing about a black background, with primarily red, green, blue, and purple "infusions."

Secondly, I heard these things called "floaters" were in my eye. They look like a bump of bubbles or cells clumped up together, I can't seem to focus on them because every time my eyes move they move too (rather "glide away"). They have in my eyes since childhood, but lately they've grown to quite a proportion that they are blatant. I'm afraid I'm losing my eyesight because of the enlarged appearance of these.

What am I seeing?

Unfortunately, I would not be able to give you a good diagnosis based on these descriptions. I could give you some ideas of what it may be, but they would be guesses. Knowing your age, whether or not you wear glasses, and whether you have any other conditions or history that could be adding to this would be helpful. If you think you may be going blind, a quick trip to an optometrist should be able to give you an accurate diagnosis. It could be something as mild as just not getting enough sleep or dry eyes.

As for the floaters, these need to be checked out if they are becoming a nuisance as they can be a sign of something more serious like connective tissue disorder. That being said, floaters are very common so don't be too concerned with them. Unless they are causing serious sight issues, there is no reason to try to surgically correct them and doing so can lead to more serious problems, like cataracts or retinal damage. They can also be responsible for some of the objects you have been seeing as your brain typically will send signals to your optical nerve to tune out the floaters when in normal sight. However, when you stare at items that have poor light or are a uniform color, they often do stick out and you may notice them moving. If I can be of any more service to you, please feel free to ask.

Age-wise, you are at a spot where these floaters can be a big nuisance as your body is growing and there are a lot of changes going on in you. As for the glasses, since you have a prescription, it may be that your eyes, or eye has become weaker or stronger and the correction may need to be changed. I am curious if you use eye drops. The more I consider all the information, I think that it is just a more acute awareness of the floaters in your eye. As you continue to grow, you should start to notice them less. If they do become a severe issue, there are some surgeries available, but they are not without risk. Talk to your eye doctor and let him double check. If I can be of more assistance, please feel free to ask.
