Yes, that is a good sign that it is just a refractive error , but in your case, at your age, having problems to focus up close with your contacts on , most likely just means your contacts are a bit too strong.
Very often , just reducing the power by a 0.25 won't affect your distance vision but will remedy the problems of trying to focus up close.
Have you mentioned that problem to your optometrist ?

Could be just an after effect from constantly straining a bit if your contacts are too strong...even when you don't have them on.
