What does my eyeglasses prescription mean?!

Question: What does my eyeglasses prescription mean?
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/8323/…

I am confused because the left side has the CYL and X 180 (which I have found is called the axis) but the other doesn't; am I expected to read it as there is no CYL for the right eye and no axis for the right? Or would the optometrist have simply written our just the CYL and axis for the left eye when it really applies to both?

Buying glasses online and it's a little tricky, your help would be much appreciated!

Each eye has its own independent prescription. Your right eye has no astigmatism and no axis, it doesn't matter whether the other eye has them.
You have myopia (also called nearsightedness) in your right eye.
The left eye has myopia and astigmatism.
"Sphere" with a negative number is myopia .
"Cyl" (short for Cylinder) is astigmatism. Axis is always related to astigmatism and has nothing to do with Sphere.
When there's no Cyl there's no Axis.

Your are nearsighted in the SPH by -2.25 diopters in both eyes but one eye has astigmatism in the CYL, every astigmatism has an axis, but the other eye does not have astigmatism so not axis.

Good luck

Eye care specialist.

There is spherical power only in the right eye.
The left eye has spherical and cylindrical power.

Optometrist

it means you have astigmatism in only thr left eye,
that's why CYL is needed
