If i had a retinal tear would it be obvious or would it only be obvious when det!

Question: If i had a retinal tear would it be obvious or would it only be obvious when detached?
Also how long does it take for a tear to turn into detachment and then blindness?

Answers:

Listen to holla!

Some people get retinal tears without symptoms; I vividly remember one patient who had no symptoms but five separate retinal tears. Other people have loads of symptoms and it's very obvious: flashing lights, dozens of new floaters all of a sudden, etc. As you might know, these are the exact same symptoms as a detached retina, and the only way to tell a detachment from a tear is to actually look at the retina to see what's going on. Depending on location, size, and severity, some tears can progress very quickly (within a few days) to a vision-threatening extent, and others just hang out for ages without changing.
It's impossible to tell without actually examining your eyes, but this sort of retinal damage is permanent if not attended to quickly. Go to an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or emergency care facility near you and have your eyes looked at.

I'm an optometrist.

Is this the same dude who got blind in one eye, whose question i previously answered?
GO TO THE HOSPITALLLLLL!

Yeah you are.
And, go to the hospital, if they catch it early there are treatments that can help correct it. GO NOW.
