Wearing contact lenses...?!

Question: Wearing contact lenses...?
I just recently started wearing contacts (in June) and at first I had good habits of taking them out and putting them back in. But now I have grown habit of wearing them (night and day). At this moment they've been in almost TWO weeks. (They are monthly lenses. My doctor says its okay to wear them straight for up to a week.) Is this dangerous? Would taking them out and keeping them out for a few days--and wearing the glasses--help reduce any 'damage' I may have done?

Answers:

Don't leave them in longer than you need to. Eyes are sensitive. Contacts decrease the oxygen in your eyes. Do not wear them to bed. Make sure they sit in solution so they are clean. You can get dry eye symptoms or decreased vision from over use. Your eyes can get tiny scratches from the contacts.

Taking a break would definitely help. Some people end up seeing no damage. My sister doesn't have an astigmatism and just wears normal sized shaped lenses fitted but she has a weird mark on her eyes and sometimes the eyes look a little more blood shot than normal.

If you take the healthy cleanly route with contacts I wouldn't worry till you notice any problems. Increased blinking, blurry, aching eyes...take a break. Also there is small solution you can put in your eyes to refresh your tears while your contacts are in.

Good luck!

wearing time is one of the most important rules for contacts. But its getting it wrong a lot of times that is dangerous. Once isn't going to damage your eyes. Take them out now and give your eyes a break with glasses as you suggest and that will help. Its about oxygen getting to the surface of your eyes and a couple of days break will give your eyes more oxygen and make them less dry. Don't worry about this , but dont' keep doing it either.

okay these are a few MUST FOLLOW rules for ALL contacts:

1. Don't sleep in them
2.put them in a clean solution after you takes them out
3.if they hurt, take them out!

The longer you keep contacts in the more chances of getting an eye infection, which can really hurt.
