when i get tired the whites of my eyes go red, not blood shot but just plain red!


Question: When i get tired the whites of my eyes go red, not blood shot but just plain red. is this normal?
during the day they also get very dry and have recently started twitching. i dont know how to stop it :/ any ideas??

Seems normal. I think it is caused by increased blood flow to the blood vessels on the sclera (white part) of your eye. This can be caused by a number of things, but in your case (when you are tired) most likely due to the eye being dry. Some people will stare at a computer screen for many many hours and then they might have red blood vessels on their eyes. Especially when they aren't getting enough sleep, because having your eyes open for such a long time can make them dry or irritated for too long.

One website I found said this: "Red eyes simply mean you haven't rested them closed lately. When your lids are open (working very hard at watching, reading, absorbing a computer screen), your eyes are prone to dryness and irritation. You need shut-eye to keep the red out. At least five hours of sleep helps retinal membranes by allowing them to recharge from a long day of seeing."
