I'd like to know about abnormal pupil contraction and dilation. Help please!

Question: I'd like to know about abnormal pupil contraction and dilation. Help please?
There's this person I know who has some serious pupil problems. I know that the pupils contract/dilate when you enter into a place that's bright/dark, but this person's eyes simply contracts and dilates all on its own, whether he's in a bright or dark room.

For example, his pupils sometimes dilate so abnormally that his green eyes turn black, and there are some times when his pupils contract so small that his eyes are mostly green, and there's just a tiny bit of black in the center.

He told me that his eyes have been like this ever since, and that his vision is fine, even when the pupils are "going nuts" so it has got nothing to do with the way he can see.

Can someone please explain to me what his eye problem is and everything possible about it?

You can actually change pupil diameter by consciously or unconsciously changing your focus. For example, when someone is reading at near, their pupils constrict. When the look into the distance, their pupils will dilate.

However, if his pupils are all over the place in regard to size , or if he has one that dilates while the other constricts, or if one pupil is constantly a different size than the other, it COULD be a neurological problem. If this is the case, I would consult with an eye doctor. Don't get to upset though because many people have different sized pupils and are totally fine. But, I would still get it checked.

Me. Im an eye doctor.
