Eyesight doesn't get better spontaneously and glasses are of no help. Glasses are not a therapy and therefore they do not help your eyesight to get better.
Glasses for myopia (also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness) can be extremely harmful to the eyes unless they are used properly.
When you have an eye test they ask you to read the letters on a chart which is 20 feet away ( 6 meters ) and that's correct because a myope has problems with distant things and the more distant a thing is, the blurrier the vision. But who spend all their time looking at things that are so far away ? No one, and that's why the glasses usually given to myopes are excellent to see distant things but are definitely too strong for everyday use. Here's explained one of the main reasons for declining eyesight : wrong glasses. It's true that a myope can read a book with his/her glasses on but only because the eyes make an effort to compensate those glasses which in that specific circumstance are too strong. That effort is called over-accommodation and it's the real cause of myopia. A young person who has perfect eyesight can easily become myopic if he/she spends most of the time looking at things that are too close. Constant over-accommodation leads to myopia. When one becomes myopic, the use of wrong glasses (i.e.. too strong for a specific task) leads to over-accommodation and to more myopia. For instance many boys/girls keep books too close when they read/study. It's not necessary, it's just a bad habit that may ruin their eyesight over the years
A considerate eye doctor/optometrist/optician should always tell their young patients that glasses are not to be used unless they are necessary. When a myope can see fairly well without them, they must not use them. For example many young myopes do not need glasses for reading and writing, because for such a small distance their natural eyesight is more than enough. If you can read books and write without glasses/contacts and without staying too close, don't use them. For all the other tasks where distance is greater the keyword is "undercorrection" i.e. weaker glasses. Your current glasses are too strong for many activities such as using the computer, watching tv and so on .
If you have older glasses they are probably weaker. Use them whenever possible. The weaker the better, provided they allow you to see clearly enough without staying too close to what you're looking at

Do not use your current glasses to stay at home or going out for a walk, use undercorrections instead. In other words, use your current glasses as little as possible, only when it's strictly necessary. It's always better to see a little blurry than to see perfectly, because a little blurriness stimulates your eyes, while the full correction makes them weaker and more dependent on glasses.

Always remember: the shorter the distance , the weaker the glasses, and if your myopia is moderate, you shouldn't use any glasses for near work.
If you start using the right glasses at the right moment, you can slow down the progression of your nearsightedness and even stop its worsening.

I also recommend you to read this book which I found very interesting and informative about myopia and its causes . It includes also a visual training method that has helped to improve my eyesight a lot (currently I'm -1.00 from an initial -3.75)

There isn't a cure for being shortsighted unfortunatley or noone would wear glasses /contacts. Your perscription may change for better if you are very lucky or for worse. Please dont' fear going blind as many people seem to , but nothing short of surgery is going to cure your short sight. Eating various foods, exercises, watching/not watching TV and computer screens make no difference.

Ok I would like to first ask if you sometimes feel awkward or strained when looking at things close up? It might seem strange to ask you this because technically you're shortsighted but I find being in a mood/frame of mind where you can happily look at near objects close up without thinking ie being weird or antisocial is when your distance vision comes out best. I'm myopic just like you and in recent years developed an awareness of how close I was reading from a book or looking at a tv screen. I think this kind of attitude is counterproductive and makes DISTANCE vision worse as a consequence (due to the strain in that person's mind).

I can tell you I bought one of those smartphones that u can browse the internet with. In the back of mind I kept picturing myself spending hours at home with this gadget in front of my face. It could easily spell disaster for my distance vision. Wildly I found being happy and relaxed while using it actually led to my distance vision afterwards becoming really good.

I think one of the things that would usually tense me up is thinking how addicted I am to looking at screens and feeling I had no natural ability to feel like stopping and resting my eyes.

Technically what is going inside the eyeball is a contraction of the ciliary muscle when you look at something close up. Distance vision then occurs from simply relaxing this muscle completely. So in conclusion I would say you should be ensuring you're relaxed to spend time using your near vision and be happy for your ciliary/eye muscle to contract anytime and to any extent (because no harm will come from doing this) and your
distance vision just takes care of itself.

It's also worth noting that the member of the family who is most comfortable spending time in front of computer and/or reading books/newspapers tends to be the person with the best distance vision. Also this thing about being awkward with having near vision is most noticeable when you're in an uncomfortable place.

Personal experience

Eyeglasses only correct your vision while you are wearing them. They will not make your uncorrected vision any better or worse. Your vision may change on its own.
