Eyes filling with blood?!

Question: Eyes filling with blood?

Ok my Mother has come down with a really terrible cold. She threw up and was coughing constantly. She went to sleep last night and did cough threw out the night. Now her eyes (both of them) are filling with blood at first it was only one and the other was half full but it has spread through the eye. She is in a great deal of pain over this. Please no rude answers this is a serious issue.

It sounds like she has bilateral subconjunctival hemorrhage. This is basically bruising of the eye associated with an extreme valsalva action. Valsalva is any action where a person strains very hard such as lifting a heavy weight, vomiting, holding your breath while trying to exhale forcefully. Just like any bruise it will take probably a couple of weeks for the body to reabsorb the blood. As long as her vision is clear she should be fine.

I am no expert but there may be two answers.
1. broken blood vessels from coughing so hard
2. a different cause and you need to take her to the doctor ASAP!

a mate of mind had that and he was told by his doctor that it was to do with arthritis...best to visit your doctor l guess
